Hello I am Leland Noah Barrett (January 3, 1973)  An American illustrator cartoonist and comic book artist. Born to the "All-American" Housatonic River Valley and raised among gritty asphalt inclines and postindustrial brownfields of Shelton Connecticut.

At a Cub Scout meeting I received a comic as a reward, The Phantom #58 “The Swamp of Death”and was hooked. Previously I only peeked at Mad Magazine while at the grocery store. I soon learned this comic was printed a few miles from my home. I haunted Charlton Comics in Derby, recovering misprints from the dumpster like a true river rat.

I eventually went in and asked if I could draw comics for Charlton. Someone there said "come back when you're older." That person was Frank McLaughlin (Pictured Below, March 18,1935 – March 4,2020) Artist and Art Director for Charlton Comics. Inker on Blue Beetle, Captain Atom Captain Marvel, Iron Fist, The Defenders, Justice League America, The Flash and Wonder WomanSadly Charlton closed before I was "old enough" to work there.

In the studio I Inked backgrounds and penciled pages for many projects such as Ghost Rider, Batman: Knightfall, Femme Fatale and Catwoman. I assisted with Daily comic strips for the Syndicated Sport comic Strip Gil Thorpe .

I led comic book classes at The Glichrist School of Cartooning. A private art school run by cartoonist Guy Gilchrist (January 30, 1957) artist of Nancy and The Muppets comic strips. I have taught community based classes continually at such institutions as The Guild School in Amherst and The NBAM, New Bedford MA. I collaborated with Frank McLaughlin until his death in 2020.

Since 2010 have aided Bob Almond (Black Panther) at the The inkwell Awards, a non-profit that celebrates the comic book inking through achievement awards and scholarships. I have also have contributed to The Sinnott Legacy Challenge which honors legendary comic inker Joltin'Joe Sinnott(Fantastic Four, The Thing, The Mighty Thor).

I practiced and set my sights on Marvel or DC in nearby NYC. I was accepted to Paier College of Art,  a trade school for illustrators in Hamden CT To my surprise  I met Frank there as a Professor. I became his student. Shortly after I was asked to contribute to a how-to-book by Christopher Hart. I How to Draw Comic Book Heroes and Villains (Watson&Guptil 1995). I then became a studio assistant for Frank McLaughlin and also assisted Dick Giordano (July 20, 1935 -March 27, 2010).
